Thembela Venue

Three spaces, and they do different jobs

A garden to marry in, a hall that holds a whole family at once, and a rooftop for the parts of a celebration that are not the whole celebration. All on one property, all fed by the same kitchen.

How many you can bring

The Hall has a minimum of 150 guests from Thursday to Sunday. Monday to Wednesday there is no minimum, so a smaller mid-week celebration is welcome. Send us your date and your guest count and we will tell you which space fits and whether it is open.

The Garden

Where most couples say their vows

Open air and planted, with the sugar cane running to the horizon behind you. Lush greenery and blooms, and the light on the KwaZulu-Natal north coast doing most of the work for you.

It is the ceremony space. Most couples marry here and then move inside, which is why the Garden and the Hall are priced and planned together rather than as two separate hires.

Ceremonies and outdoor celebrations

Glass on one side, so the light stays in the room

The Hall

650

150 to 650 guests

Floor to ceiling windows down one side, so the cane and the evening light stay in the room rather than stopping at the wall. It is the room the larger celebrations happen in.

Six hundred and fifty is a real number, not a fire-regulation one. Weddings in this region are large, families travel, and a venue that has to turn half of them away is not much use. The kitchen is sized for the same guest count, because it is our own.

Best for
Receptions, traditional ceremonies, gala dinners
Setting
Indoor, glass-walled, views over the sugarcane
Floor area
960 square metres

40 to 80 guests

Céleste, the rooftop

Above the Hall, open to the sky

Up above the Hall, open to the sky and looking out over the sugarcane. Small, high, and separate from whatever is happening downstairs.

Céleste is not a wedding space, and we would rather say so than have you plan around it. It is for birthdays, baby showers, private parties, corporate dinners and conferences, on weekdays. Weekends stay open for the Hall, because we will not run two events on one property at the same time and give you half our attention.

Best for
Birthdays, baby showers, private parties, corporate dinners

Up to 200 cinema-style
